**NOTE: On October 1, 2012 revisions to MCL 500.3135 took effect, which moved the definition of “serious impairment of body function” from subsection (7) to subsection (5). The substantive text of the provision itself was not altered by the revision and remains unchanged. See Am. 2012, Act 158, Eff. Oct. 1, 2012. This change occurred during the “McCormick Era,” and the “McCormick Era” index headings above have therefore been revised to reflect the new subsection (5). However, because there was no substantive change to the text of the definition itself, cases decided during the “McCormick Era” before October 1, 2012 under the former subsection (7) are listed in these index headings together with cases decided after October 1, 2012 under the new subsection (5).
